PHOTOGRAPHY 52 CHALLENGE – WEEK 19

Choosing the right perspective to shoot from can take an ordinary moment and turn it into a dramatic photo.  In my example for week 19 I wanted to capture a glimpse of my niece’s world from her crib.  These days she likes it when I take her photo because she can see what it looks like right after : )  There was natural light coming in from a window in front of her so I asked her to sit in the corner of the crib.  I got down to her eye level with an idea of how I wanted to shoot her from this angle.  When she looked up and out the window I noticed how the light fell on her face creating a shadow in the perfect place.  I knew I wouldn’t get a redo with this moment.  So I quickly framed the shot placing the focus on her eyes and blurred out the crib behind her.  When I uploaded the photo for editing I knew instantly that I had to turn it into a black and white to intensify the lights and darks.  The light on her face is balanced out with the darkness of the crib.  And the shadow created on her face was an added bonus.  The viewer’s eye rushes immediately to the right of the photo to discover those big beautiful eyes.
